Car makers like Nissan and Chevy are trying to appeal to consumers buying a new car by including electric models among their variety of vehicle options. But as sales data released last month from the two companies shows, there doesn’t appear to be much of a market for them so far. What explains the lack of interest?

Md., Pa., other states choose Equias Alliance for BOLI services

Equias Alliance was selected by 10 state associations, including Maryland Bank Services and the Pennsylvania Bankers Association Services Corp., as their exclusive provider for bank-owned life insurance (BOLI), and executive and director benefits consulting services.

The company, based in Memphis Tenn., also received the American Bankers Association exclusive endorsement for BOLI, and executive and director benefit consulting services, according to the company.

Other state associations include the Arkansas Bankers Association, California Bankers Association, Illinois Bankers Association, Florida Bankers Association and its subsidiary BancServ., the Oklahoma Bankers Association, South Carolina Bankers Association, Tennessee Bankers Association, and Texas Bankers Assocation and its subsidiary TBA Services Co.

The Maryland endorsement involves the wholly owned, for-profit subsidiary of the Maryland Bankers Association.

To be selected, companies must meet stringent quality standards, fulfill industry needs, and satisfy certain other key criteria, such as the ability to meet the long term needs of financial institutions, customer service, financial soundness and management strength.

Equias Alliance delivers nonqualified benefit and BOLI administration and portfolio services to banks across the U.S., using a team of 15 consultants and 24 support personnel.

Rising Health Insurance Costs A Problem For Individuals, Employers And Federal Government Alike

Kaiser Family Foundation’s annual study, published today (Tuesday 27th Sept) found insurance costs for the 150 Million Americans that have health coverage through their employers jumped by nearly 10% this year, presenting a quite a problem. Kaiser and the Health Research & Educational Trust surveyed 2,088 randomly selected public and private employers large and small earlier this year.

“We’re probably on a more modest side … but even with a 5% increase in a premium (that our workers saw) this year, they didn’t get a 5% raise,” said Jeff Franck, a compensation and benefits manager at Altru Health System, which employs about 3,700 people in North Dakota and Minnesota, and which participated in the survey.

LIC joins online play with pure term policy

MUMBAI: Life Insurance Corporation will sell its policy through the internet for the first time soon with the launch of a pure term plan.

“We are in the process of designing a pure term product which would be sold through both online and through agents,” LIC’s ED- marketing S Roy Chowdhury. “The rates will be lower than what is charged at the moment,” he added.

LIC currently charges higher premium for its term plans than private competitors. For example, a 30-year-old non-smoker has to pay an annual premium of 7,300 for a 25-lakh policy under LIC’s term plan Amulya Jeevan, while she can buy online policies such as ICICI Prudential’s iProtect for 3,350 and Kotak Life’s e-term plan for 2,750.
